Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The concept of intersectionality (multidimensionality) is considered one of the most important theoretical developments in gender studies, which has also gained great significance for legal practice. The term is used to describe the (sometimes synergistic) interaction of discrimination grounds. An example is the discrimination of a female person because she wears a headscarf for religious reasons; the discrimination is based on the interaction of the categories gender, religion as well as ethnicity because the person is perceived as culturally foreign. The seminar deals with the concept of intersectionality from a theoretical and practical perspective. It uses some example cases to ask to what extent the application of the law can meet the complex challenges involved - and whether this is even attempted.
