Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The much-discussed global rise of illiberal and reactionary political forces is accompanied by theorizing that is rarely closely examined and analyzed. Contemporary illiberal political philosophies build on a long tradition of reactionary critique of the values of liberalism and the Enlightenment, and they argue for a social order built on deference to authority, orientation toward the common good, and traditional gender constructions. In our seminar, we aim to comprehensively reconstruct this current of political philosophy in the context of recent political developments using contemporary and historical texts.
