The course will be held in English. A knowledge of German is not required.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment in this course is based on
- students' oral contributions and discussions in one of the seminars: 10%
- a written essay on a topic of one of the modules: 20%
- final written exam: 70%.

With your attendance in the kick-off class you confirm your registration for the course. In case you miss the kick-off class unexcused you will be deregistered from the course.

In case you confirm your registration for the course by attending the kick-off class or you are registered from the waiting list and do not deregister from the course within the deregistration period provided, you will be graded (negatively if criteria for a positive assessment are not met). For further information see § 10 subpara 6 of the study law.

If parts of your performance were obtained by fraud, i.e. cheating, plagiarism or forging signatures on attendance lists the course will be entered into your record as "not graded" and provided with a note saying "cheating/obtained by fraud". Should you have special requirements in connection with Covid-19 or otherwise please do not hesitate to contact me via E-Mail.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The minimum requirement for students to obtain a positive grade is the delivery of all three parts for the assessment and their overall positive completion. A good grade is not automatically and solely linked to the frequency of the contributions but primarily to their quality. Grading schemes regarding oral/written contributions and written exam will be discussed in the kick-off class.

Furthermore, please be aware that attendance in the seminars is mandatory. More than one unexcused absence will result in a negative grade.
