Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The idea of legal pluralism challenges legal scholarship. How did the concept of legal pluralism develop? What exactly does it mean? What criticism(s) are there? And where do we find legal pluralism? In a first step, the seminar deals with the debates on legal pluralism as they have developed in legal anthropology and the sociology of law since the 1960s. It provides insights into the theoretical debates and asks about their significance for law and society. In a second step, concrete constellations of legal pluralism and the controversies surrounding them will be examined. We will ask what is being negotiated here: law? rights? politics?
