Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar will discuss the most significant aspects of the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT), and the jurisprudence of the Committee against Torture, which is responsible for the monitoring of CAT. Questions concerning the interpretation of the Convention with that of regional treaties i.e., the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment of 1987, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of 1966 and the European Convention on Human Rights of 1950, will be examined.
