Aims, contents and method of the course

Assessment and permitted materials

The grade is determined by three factors: participation in a two-hour excursion to the "Reichsarchive" (Imperial Archives) kept at the Austrian State Archive, Division House, Court and State Archive at the Minoritenplatz, a translation of a brief passage from Jean Dumont's "Corps Universel Diplomatique du Droit des Gens" into English, either from French or German or Dutch or Italian or Spanish (alternatively students may translate from Danish, Swedish or Ottoman Turkish into English, English-only speakers may help their fellow students) and a written exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- participation in one of the two-hour excursions on offer
- brief translation and critical commentary
- positive evaluation of the written exam (counts for two thirds of the final grade)

Examination topics

- the subject matter covered during the lecture
- reading assignments on the e-learning platform
