Aims, contents and method of the course

The course is an intensive preparation for the written exam "Fächerübergreifende Modulprüfung FÜM 1, Einführung in die internationalen Grundlagen des Rechts; Völkerrechtlicher Teil", as well as for the STEOP exam in the IREWI study.
The course focuses on the basic principles and particularities of the public international legal order, sources of public international law, subjects of public international law, basic legal principles in international relations, state responsibility and liability.
The course includes e-learning via Moodle in a particular form. Ahead of each class, a quiz is to be completed. Not all of the questions in the quiz can be answered from the script and sometimes research in the internet might be necessary. After each class, questions about the content of the respective unit are placed online ("participation quizzes").
In addition, short cases will be available on Moodle ahead of each unit, which are to be read beforehand in order to prepare for questions and class discussions.

Assessment and permitted materials

E-learning quizzes at home for preparation ahead of each class ("preparation quizzes", 90 minutes, three trials), short e-learning quizzes after each class ("participation quizzes", 15 minutes, one trial) and an e-learning quiz about the entire content of the course ("final exam", 90 minutes, 113 questions).
Materials permitted: All e-learning tests are open book.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Assessment criteria:
I. E-learning (80%)
1. Preparation quizzes to be completed ahead of each unit: 40%
2. Final exam at the end of the semester: 40%
II. Participation
1. Presence: 10%
2. Participation quizzes: 10%
