Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is for students to acquire in-depth knowledge in the area of financial and capital market law through intensive research. At the end of the course, the participants should be able to analyse financial market law issues and form their own legal opinion on arising problems. In addition, they will acquire competences in the area of comparative law. The lecturers from three countries (including one non-EU member state) will teach basic principles of their respective legal systems.
At the beginning of the course, the students will be assigned a current topic from the field of financial market law. They will then write a 15 to 20-page seminar paper on this topic (deadline: 6 weeks from topic assignment). The main findings are to be presented in a short lecture at the end of the course and then discussed in the plenum.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written seminar paper; oral presentation with subsequent discussion

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The assessment criteria are in particular the exhaustion of the topic, the conciseness of the presentation, a focus on the relevant issues, the level of argumentation, the independence of the line of thought, the independence of one's own statement as well as the compliance with the formalities (see in the reading list). In addition to the written work, the presentation and the participation in the discussions of the other participants' presentations can also be positively considered in the assessment. Good knowledge of the German language is required, because the lecture will be held entirely in German.

Attention: If you want to have the seminar paper approved as a diploma seminar paper, you have to cite according to Dax/Hopf/Maier (eds.), Abkürzungs- und Zitierregeln der österreichischen Rechtssprache und europarechtlicher Rechtsquellen (AZR) published in Manz Verlag.
