Assessment and permitted materials
The grade is determined by three factors:
- regular attendance and active participation in the regular sessions
- translation and critical commentary of a brief passage from Christian Wilhelm Dohm's famous treatise "Über die bürgerliche Verbesserung der Juden" (English-only speakers may help fellow-students)
- written exam (open book).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
- students may miss not more than two sessions of the regular classes
- translation and critical commentary of a brief passage from Christian Wilhelm Dohm's famous treatise "Über die bürgerliche Verbesserung der Juden" needs to be completed by 20 SEptember 2020 (English-only speakers may help fellow-students)
- written exam counts for two thirds of the final grade

In terms of method the course is taught a) on the basis of concrete examples of "law in action" (norms, contracts, jurisdiction and administration) rather than "law in the books" and b) the assumption that the history of the legal positon of the Jews is of interest also for our undestanding of legal history in general.
