Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course prepares selected students for participation in the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Court, which is scheduled to take place in June 2024. The team selection process will take place in November 2023. Please send us your CV and letter of motivation until 15 November 2023. The preparation phase for the Moot Court will begin in December 2023.

INFORMATION:
Our first meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 24 October 2023 in SEM 64 (6 p.m.). This first meeting will be an information event. We will discuss the Investment Arbitration Moot Court, the selection process and any questions you might have. There will also be a short introductory lecture on investment law and public international law. Please note that there will be no meetings before 24 October.
Some general information in advance:
• A Moot Court is a student competition in which teams represent one party in simulated (arbitral) proceedings. The investment moot court is based on a fictitious dispute between an investor and a state. We expect that the case study for the investment moot court 2024 will be published in December 2023. Please visit www.investmentmoot.org for further information.
• This course is a preparation for participation in the Investment Arbitration Moot Court in June 2024 in Frankfurt. It is a competition between teams from universities from all over the world. The course will teach you about investment law and public international law and offer training in rhetoric and presentation skills.
• Before the competition in Frankfurt, you have the chance to participate in “Pre-Moots” (practice rounds) in Milan, Geneva or Paris. We expect that pre-moots will take place between April and early June 2024. Travel expenses are reimbursed by the University of Vienna.
• If you would like to participate in this course and become a team member, please send us your CV and a letter of motivation until 15 November 2023. (It does not matter if you are on the “waiting list” or registered for this course).
Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Best wishes,
Nektarios Papadimos and Hannah Grandits
