Aims, contents and method of the course
General definitions of terms; legal standing of Muslims in Austria since the early modern times; legal standing of Muslims in Austria under the rule of Maria Theresia and Joseph II; Legal standing of Muslims during the 19th century against the background of the emerging of fundamental rights; Act on the Recognition of the Adherents of Islam as a Religious Community (Islamgesetz 1912); Muslims in Austria between 1918 and 1945; European Convention on Human Rights and Islam; Legal developments since the late 1970s; Act on External Legal Relationsips of Islamic Religious Societies (Islamgesetz 2015); Federal Act on the Prohibition of Face Covering in Public (Anti-Face-Covering Act - Anti-Gesichtsverhüllungsgesetz 2017); Other relevant areas of law outside the direct material scope of these laws: International private law; Anti-Discrimination Law; headscarf bans etc.
Assessment and permitted materials
Hausarbeit, Mitarbeit, mündliches Kolloquium.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
(Digitale) Anwesenheitspflicht (bitte keinesfalls mehr als dreimal fehlen!). Das Kolloquium wird etwa die Hälfte der Beurteilung ausmachen, die Hausarbeit etwa ein Drittel, und darüber hinaus wird positive Mitarbeit bewertet werden.
Examination topics
The relevant material of this course will be oulined by "punctures" in written form. Those "punctures" will be made available for the students via the Moodle-platform durching the course of the semester.
Reading list
The "punctures" will contain extensive references to literature and judicature.
