The kick off-class will take place on Tuesday, 29 October 2024. During the kick-off class, students will be familiarised with the structure of the course on moodle and the topics.
Details on the organisation will be communicated in FAQs for students in writing on moodle and in the preliminary meeting.

The first exam will take place on 14.1.2025, the second exam on 21.1.2025. The second exam is exclusively for students who have not passed the first exam.

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course EU Constitutional Law - Principles and Structures intends to deal with structural features and principles of EU constitutional law.
The methodology to approach discussion will revolve around comparative analysis of constitutional law of the EU, taking into account the influence of MS' constitutional order on the EU.
Students are encouraged to actively contribute to the constitutional systems of their member states. Historical considerations and comparative analysis of the constitutional law of selected Member States and their influence on EU constitutional law are then analysed and placed in context.
Current challenges for the European Union will be analysed and discussed on the basis of the principles of European constitutional law.
Furthermore, current legal and policy-related developments will be addressed and taken into account.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam: 70% and
Participation in class: 30%

Discussion and exchange of ideas are essential to academic work. For any kind of aasignment in this course, your are encouraged to consult with your classmates on the choice of paper topics and to share sources.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Positive completion of the written exam AND at least one (1) substantial contribution to discussion during class.

Examination topics

Students have the possibility of writing an ERASMUS-paper within this course; research subjects shall be suggested via MOODLE and/or during the first course unit. Own ideas contributions are welcome.
