Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The sole (!) purpose of the blocked course is to prepare for the oral exams in EU law (Diplom and IREWI) with Prof. Hornkohl. After an introductory and preparatory digital event, the lessons consist of oral mock exams, which all participants must take. Diploma students are examined in German, IREWI students in English. The participants of the exercise are given sample cases and sample questions. These are then discussed in a group session with further information on the topics.Students who take their oral exam with Prof. Hornkohl are encouraged to attend the tutorial, even if they do not wish to take any mock exams. In this case, please do not officially register, but come to the specified tutorial times. These students are considered to be listeners and do not receive a grade. For information on the course content, see: https://eur-int-comp-law.univie.ac.at/pruefungen/
Assessment and permitted materials
The grade for the course is made up of the grade for the mock oral exam(s) (50%) and oral participation (50%). Students can pass the course by attending and actively participating, even if they do not pass the mock exam. Students must still attend all three course days. Unexcused absences will negatively affect the grade.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students should already have knowledge in European law, especially in the core areas (internal market law (fundamental freedoms, prohibition of discrimination, EU citizenship), competition law (antitrust law, merger control and state aid law, peripheral areas (e.g. DMA, third-country subsidy regulation), including the respective procedural law) and legal protection in EU law). See also: https://eur-int-comp-law.univie.ac.at/pruefungen/hornkohl/Grading is essentially the same as in a real oral exam. However, it is not necessary to be perfectly prepared. Students can pass the course if they are present and actively participate, even if they do not pass the mock exam. Unexcused absences will have a negative effect on the grade.
