Aims, contents and method of the course

20 years ago the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, meanwhile ratified by almost all countries in the world; 20 years later: time for celebration? The Focus of this seminar will deal with "children on the move", i.e. accompanied and unaccompanied children arriving in Austria with various backgrounds, including migrant, trafficking and asylum-seeking children, with explicit emphasis on the gender dimension and the specific situation of the girl child "on the move" - in light of another 2009 Anniversary, of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women.

Assessment and permitted materials

In general, the event is open to the public. Students who want to obtain credits have to:

- prove a sound knowledge of the international human rights regime, e.g. successful participation in an introduction lecture or seminar on international human rights:

- engage actively in the discussions

- write a paper on one of the topics and present it at the final seminar meeting.
