Aims, contents and method of the course

The course analyzes a number of legal problems with regard to gender aspects. It includes questions as diverse as Constitutional court rulings on equality, family law, criminal sexual offences, "stalking", violence in the family context, contractual obligations in the field of securities, unisex insurance premiums. These question sameness and difference will be discussed in the context of the construction of gender roles along the axes of sameness and difference.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The seminar aims at questioning the neutrality of the law versus the roles of men and women. It will focus on the interdependency of extra-legal ideas and values with the creation and application of the law.

Examination topics

The seminar is based on active participation by the students. Every student will present one topic in written and oral form and is invited to participate in the discussions.
