Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims to make it possible to experience mediation of conflicts from different perspectives by means of practical cases. While two MCs have already been offered in English, this is the first one in German. Participants take on all possible roles in a conflict with legal implications (mediator, lawyer, parties). In particular, it is appealing and challenging to take on different positions in a short time sequence during the competition. Flexibility and empathy are required.
Units with information on mediation as well as practice are offered, as well as a whole day during which a pre-moot round is held with teams from Graz University using an online platform. The highlight is the competition, which will be held for the whole day on 10.6.2022. Mediators from the field will be invited as jurors.
For participation, knowledge of mediation that the participants have acquired in the course of the specialisation training in mediation or on other occasions (e.g. mediation at school) is advantageous. However, beginners are also welcome. Legal knowledge, especially in civil law, is helpful (and assumed).

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral participation (taking on the roles) both in the preparation phase and at the competition in Vienna and writing a working paper "Mediation Plan" on the issues to be mediated (approx. 10-15 pages in total). If desired, a thesis can be written. The general requirements apply.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Continuous attendance and taking on the assigned roles in the role play. Writing the working paper "Mediation Plan". Working through the mediation and legal aspects.
