The lecture is given partially remote (there are videos of the lectures that can be watched any time in self-study). The meetings on site are partially "flipped classroom" sessions where we discuss and deepen contents from the videos and questions can be posed. Active participation and discussion during the on site meetings is desirable. All videos can be found on the Moodle page during the whole semester. Presence on site is not mandatory. The Moodle page will be accessible by beginning of November.

Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Aims: students learn basic quantitative methods for applications in business and economics. The mathematical tools will be applied in exercises in the Exercises class that takes place parallel to the lecture.Contents: one-dimensional analysis: sequences and series, real functions in one variable, continuity, some special functions such as exponential function and logarithm, differentiability and derivatives, study and sketching of curves, convexity and concavity, Taylor series, first and second order criteria for local extrema, introduction to integration theory, antiderivative, calculation of areas with integrals. Linear algebra: vectors, matrices, linear (in)dependence, inner product, euclidian norm, orthogonality of vectors, determinants of matrices, inverse matrix, introduction to systems of linear equations, eigen-values and eigen-vectors, definiteness of matrices, quadratic formsMethods: In the lecture the theory will be presented and some basic examples will be explained. In the accompanying exercises class "UE Übungen zu Mathematik 1, 4 ECTS, 2 SSt. (pi)" the students will get homework which deepens and supplements the theory. The solutions will be presented by students in the Exercises class .
Assessment and permitted materials
Written digital exam. The exam is open-book. You are allowed to use all materials of the lecture. You are not allowed to cooperate or communicate with others.Important fact: separate registration for the exam is necessary, please note the deadlines for registration! Detailed information about the digital exam can be found one week before the exam date on the moodle-page of the corresponding exam. You get access to this moodle page about one week before the exam date IF (and ONLY IF) you are registered for this exam. A maximum of 60 points can be reached in the digital exam. Necessary points for a positive grade: 25.
