In order to participate in this course the student has to have completed at least one course in the area of banking, finance or corporate finance. Before the course starts the student is strongly recommended to review the introductory literature.Moreover it is mandatory for students to pass the common VO "Einführung in das wissenschaftliche Arbeiten".

Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is about writing and presenting a Bachelor thesis on a selected topic within the general area of banking and finance. Hence this seminar serves as an introduction into scientific discourse.We will first briefly review basic concepts in banking and finance and then discuss applications to real world phenomena and policy issues. We will then jointly read a scientific paper, which also serves the purpose of an introduction into scientific writing.
Assessment and permitted materials
Bachelor thesis (written): 60%
presentation (oral): 20%
discussion of other presentations (oral): 20%Erlaubte Hilfsmittel: Literature sources (including internet) need to be properly cited.Anwesenheit: Attendance mandatory. Course organization will be introduced and the presentation schedule will be arranged in the first meeting at October 8th. Failure to show up in the first meeting may result in the non-availability of presentation slots.Mindestanforderungen für positive Note: Each of the above components needs to be graded at least as "satisfactory" (grade 4.0) separately. This implies a minimum score of 50% on each component.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will select their own thesis topic and present the development of their ideas as they go along. The Bachelor thesis (maximum 30 pages including all figures and references) has to be handed in by end of January 2016.
Examination topics
Organization: SeminarThe course consists of 2 seminar hours per week. Each student is expected to present and discuss his ideas. Moreover, each student is equally expected to actively contribute ideas and discussion to peer presentations.
