Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course covers some of the key topics in Development Economics. Special emphasis will be placed on both theory and empirics, as well as policy implications.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students will be evaluated on the basis of a mid-term exam (40%), a number of homeworks (40%) and their participation (and the quality thereof) in class (20%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The objective of the course is to have students apply and develop the skills acquired in the BA in Economics in the field of development.
Examination topics
Different theories will be discussed, as well as the related empirical evidence and policy debates.
Reading list
The course will be based, whenever possible, on Debraj Ray's "Development Economics", Princeton University Press. A number of additional readings will (mostly empirical papers and policy papers) will be required as well.
