This course will not be offered beyond the 2021 spring/summer term. It will be replaced by VO Foundations of International Business (MA) as the compulsory course in the International Management specialization.
Exam attempts in the courses count towards each other. Thus if you've already attempted to take the exam in VO Theory of the International Firm (MA) you'll have correspondingly fewer exam attempts in VO Foundations of International Business (MA).

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to give an overview of the existing theoretical explanations of the existence and organization of the international firm:

Hymer and Kindlerberger theory, diversification theory, product life cycle theory, appropriation and transaction cost theory, internationalization theory, eclectic theory, network theory, resource-based and organizational capabilities theory, institutional theory, power theory, stakeholder view of MNC, real option theory, spring board and LLL theory, and theories of multinational E-business companies.

The class is mainly based on lectures and literature discussion.

Exam (in English) for which you have to register separately via univis (look in Cluster WIWI Prüfungen).
