Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course covers selected topics, models, and methods commonly used in modern macroeconomics. It presents issues related to monetary policy, frictional labor markets and market power, and productivity growth under mis-allocation. Students learn how to do a computer-based analysis of dynamic business cycle models with frictional labor markets using dynamic programming, Markov chains, and value function iteration. The goal is to equip students with the tools needed to do independent research in macro and related fields.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course grade is based on 3 problem sets (10% each), a midterm (30%) on May 16, 2025, and a comprehensive final exam (40%) on June 27, 2025. Students who take the midterm on May 15 will be given the opportunity of a re-take midterm on May 30.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students need to obtain at least an average of 50% to pass this course. 50% - 60% implies a 4; 60% - 70% a 3; 70% - 85% a 2; 85% or above a 1.
