Aims, contents and method of the course

The ABWL Management II deepens the contents of the accordant ABWL Management I, which is also the prerequisite for attending the course. We apply organizational theories on case studies and exercises. Special focus is put on the organizational structure and organizational processes. Additionally, we practice the controlling in centralized and decentralized structures. Also, we discuss the main topics in human resource management. In any possible organizational structure, the effective use of human resources is critical to the success of the organization. The UE focuses on the concepts of organizational architecture and how to apply these concepts to operational decisions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The objective of this course is to impart competent knowledge in organization and human resources by practically applying the basic theoretical contents acquired in the ABWL Management I.

Examination topics

Working on case studies and exercises, students practically apply and detail the basic theoretical contents acquired in the Management I. Current trends in human resource management are discussed and critically reviewed.

The UE ABWL Unternehmensführung II deepens the contents of the accordant VO, which is also the prerequisite for attending the course. We apply organizational theories on case studies. These case studies deal with different alternatives in coordinating economic activities (hierarchy, network, and market). Special focus is put on the organizational structure and organizational processes. Additionally, we practice the controlling in decentralized structures. Additionally, we discuss the main topics in human resource management. In any possible organizational structure, the effective use of human resources is critical to the success of the organization. The VK focuses on the areas of recruiting and human resource development.

The aims of the course:
- Understanding the basics of efficiency, agency theory, transaction cost theory and performance measurement
- Improving analytical intuition
- Applying economic principles to real-world complexity

Assessment and permitted materials

- 2 quizzes (50%)
- Final exam (50%)

All exams are closed-book, open questions.

It is possible to improve your final grade by participating in class discussions as well as contributing to the moodle question forum (but only if you pass the course = achieve >50% from the written exams).

Moreover, you can gain up to 10% bonus points from a participation in an experiment (infos will follow in class).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To pass the course, you have to obtain a final score of at least 50%.

[63%-75%): 3
[75%-88%): 2
[88%-100%): 1
