Aims, contents and method of the course

The main goal of this course is a B1 level Italian - Business Communication.
Aims of the course
On completion of the course, students will be able to
• read and understand Italian text;
• understand and apply business Italian vocabulary and terminology on a B1 level;
• give presentations of a italian firm;
• participate in discussions.

Teaching methods
lectures, small-group work, discussions, vocabulary development and reinforcement of grammatical structures, listening comprehensions, role plays and peer-to-peer coaching.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to pass the course, students must reach an overall percentage score (PS) of more than 60%.
According to university regulation, this course is "prüfungsimmanent", which means that in principle students must attend every class.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Learning outcomes: The module aims to encourage students to learn basic business vocabulary in Italian and develop written and oral skills in order to be able to communicate properly in daily business situations in Italy. The subject-specific learning outcomes comply with the grammatical structures and specifications for level B1 according to CEFR (business communication).

Main content overview: The topics cover business conversations in Italian with partners and colleagues as well as typical business situations.

Method: The lessons follow a communicative approach to language teaching and learning (group work and dialogues, role-plays, presentations etc.).

The course and the exams are carried out on-site (Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz).

Assessment and permitted materials

The final mark is made up of the following elements:
- three written tests → 15 % + 20% + 25% of the final mark
- one oral exam at the end of the semester → 25% of the final mark
- one presentation during the semester → 10% of the final mark
- work during the semester (at home and during the lessons) → 5% of the final mark

There is no makeup exam.

Students are expected to complete their written and oral exams without additional resources (e.g. notes, AI tools, dictionaries, etc.). The use of AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, DeepL, Google Translate, Yandex Translate) for the production of texts is only permitted if they are expressly requested by the lecturer.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to be able to follow 'Italian Business Communication 1', it is recommended that students already understand, speak, and write Italian to A2 level at the beginning of the course.

Each test is assessed independently: The students can obtain 100 points at max. at the end of the semester.

Assessment criteria:
< 60%: 5
60-69%: 4 (pass)
70-79%: 3
80-89%: 2
90-100%: 1.

Class attendance is mandatory (up to 4 absences are allowed).

Examination topics

All contents covered during the lessons and the homework are relevant for the exams.
The exam topics covered in both written and oral exams are communicated via Moodle.
