Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will focus on the everyday use of Chinese of 1a level. You will learn the basic expressions of greeting someone, introducing yourself, making an appointment, asking directions, ages or prices, and so on. Besides, you will get to know some basic cultural and economical background information about China, in order to help you in learning the language.
After this semester, you will learn around 300 Chinese characters. (You don't need to be able to write them all, but you can recognize them, know the pronunciation of them and their meanings.)
On Moodle-Platform you will find the learning materials at least one week before the course starts. The learning materials contain the text (Lesson 1-Lesson 10), new words, exercise, Chinese character exercise and audio data.

We switched the On-site course to Online course from 3rd November 2020.

Regarding the learning of Modern Chinese, here are what we are going to do next:

1. From next week on, you will see all learning materials incl. audio data for key points of the learning materials on Moodle platform.

2. Every week we will still have the online BBB room from 8:00-9:30, but only to answer your questions, class activities, dictations and for comments on the mistakes in your homeworks of the previous week.

For example: on 9th November, you will have the BBB room for homework comments and dictation of Lesson 3

You should download everything from Moodle and learn it at home, if you have any questions, please put it in the discussion forum, so that I or other students will answer your questions.(Please do not send me the Email, because your question could be a common question for all other students and the discussion on that question could be a valuble learning process for all of you.)

Assessment and permitted materials

Instead of a mid-term test, you will receive an open-book exam, so that you will get to know how the final exam looks like and you will have a basic evaluation of yourself at the same time, and surely know where you should put more attention to in the coming half semester.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The final score of yours will be based on your attendance rate (10%), your active group exercise (20%, if we switch to home-learning, this part will be done online with Jitsi or other Apps), dictations (30%) and the final test (40%).
There is a strict regulation about your attendance rate. Absence more than 3 times means your final score will be graded automatically as 5.
