Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives:
- Enhance written and spoken expression at B1+ to B2 proficiency levels, enabling students to understand, comment on, and present arguments on selected economic topics and reports.
- Develop and reinforce general language skills in speaking, writing, listening, and reading.
- Expand specialized vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and statistical language to handle professional situations in Russian-speaking environments.
- Build competence in business correspondence and report writing.
- Provide insights into the socio-cultural specifics of contemporary Russia and communication strategies within Russian-speaking contexts.

Main Topics:
Types of businesses & business biographies; Company structures and organizational charts; SWOT analysis of company activities; Advantages and disadvantages of products/services/offers from various perspectives; Sales strategies, product/service value, and pricing; Justifying and negotiating price increases and reductions; Comparing taxes across different countries; Job advertisements, resumes, applications, interviews, employment contracts, job transitions, and work advantages and disadvantages; Delivery terms, logistics and transportation, order processing and confirmation, complaints, and reminders

Teaching Methods:
- Communicative, interactive, and action-oriented teaching methods. Students will engage in active participation through group and partner work, role-playing, and case studies.
-Advanced students (with near-native proficiency in Russian) may receive extended topics and assignments.

Assessment and permitted materials

Final Grade Components:
1. Midterm Test (Grammar B2, Listening & Comprehension, Reading, Business Vocabulary) – 30%
2. Final Exam (Written speech production on course topics & translation from German to Russian) – 40%
3. Oral Presentation (On an independently selected topic) and Current Oral Contributions during the term – 30%

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Students missing more than four classes without a valid medical excuse will receive a negative evaluation and may be dropped from the course.
Students who miss the first class without an excuse will be automatically dropped from the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

100 - 91 points very good
90 - 81 points gut
80 - 71 points satisfactory
70 - 60 points sufficient
under 60 points insufficient

Examination topics

Detailed information about each type of test will be provided at least two weeks before the examination.
