Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course makes students familiar with analysing and solving DSGE models in New Open Economy Macroeconomics in order to study questions such as: what determines cross-border capital flows and the current account; what determines nominal and real exchange rates; the choice of exchange rate regime; international business cycle analysis. The course will pay particular attention to frictions and crises in open economies, such as sovereign default crises and financial crises and sudden stops, and the prevention thereof by using macroprudential policy. Some meetings will be devoted to lectures, others to exercise classes where we will solve the models analytically and, in parts, also numerically.
Assessment and permitted materials
There will be two exams and one homework to be handed in. Each element counts 33% towards the final grade.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
A prerequisite for the course is the course "Growth and Business Cycles", or equivalent. As some part of the course will deal with numerical implementation, it is useful to have some first knowledge about Matlab.
Examination topics
Reading list
The main textbook for the course is Open Economy Macroeconomics, 2017 Princeton University Press, by Martin Uribe and Stephanie Schmitt-Grohe. Other parts of the course will be based on research papers.
