Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Ziel ist die Vermittlung eines Überblicks über Monetäre Integrations- sowie Desintegrationsprozesse im nachnapoleonischen Europa unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Governance-Strukturen. Folgende Gliederung ist vorgesehen:

1. Überblick über wichtige geld- und währungspolitische Theorien und Begriffe (Silber-, Goldstandard, Bimetallismus, freie und feste Wechselkurse, Optimale Währungsräume usw.)
2. Währungskooperationen und -unionen im nachnapoleonischen Europa (u.a. Skandinavische Münzunion; Lateinische Münzunion, währungspolitische Integration in Deutschland, Italien und der Schweiz; Österreich-Ungarn als Zoll- und Währungsunion, geldpolitische Integration in den USA)
3. Phase des Kollaps von Bimetallismus und des Verfalls des Silberstandards (Britisches Empire und der Sterling-Raum; Geldpolitik im vorrevolutionären Russland).
4. Zusammenbruch des Goldstandards im frühen 20. Jahrhundert (Durchsetzung des Papiergeldes; Inflation, temporäre Rückkehr zum Goldstandard)
5. Die Ära von Bretton Woods (währungspolitische Rekonstruktion nach dem 2. Weltkrieg; das System von Bretton Woods und der Internationale Währungsfonds, Zusammenbruch des BW-Systems)
6. Der Weg zum EURO
7. Währungspolitische Konsequenzen des Zusammenbruchs des Ostblocks: Strategien und Wege geldpolitischer Desintegration
8. Das Auseinanderbrechen des Sterling-Raumes und der Franc Zone; Escudo Zone.
