Aims, contents and method of the course

The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the fundamental principles of e-commerce and online shop management and to enable them to apply this knowledge to a practical online shop project.

The following topics will be covered:
Trends in e-commerce
Revenue models and business models
Product presentation in the online shop
Mass customization
Shopping cart and checkout process
Online pricing
Usability & user experience
Payment systems
E-commerce platforms (self-hosted, SaS, marketplaces)
Content marketing
Social media marketing
Search engine marketing (organic, paid)
Legal aspects of e-commerce

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment is based on the following components:
Project 40%
Presentation 20%
Exam 40%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The following grading system is used:
87.5% - 100% = “Sehr gut” (1) - Excellent
75% - 87% = “Gut” (2) - Good
62.5% - 74.5% = “Befriedigend” (3) - Fair
50% - 62% = “Genügend” (4) - Satisfactory
Below 50% = “Nicht Genügend” (5) - Fail
