Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
We review literature on welfare economics, the branch of economics that provides normative guidance for the design and evaluation of public policy. Students are expected to take an active approach regarding the choice of topics, literature research, and are expected to work on a written assignment to prepare them for their upcoming work on their Bachelor’s thesis. Their work will then be presented and discussed in class. Please note that it is not possible to write a Bachelor's thesis as part of this course.
Assessment and permitted materials
Grading is based on the content (40%) and formal design (20%) of the seminar paper, the clarity and content of the presentation (20%), as well as active class participation (20%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum requirements for a passing grade are the submission and presentation of a seminar paper, and regular seminar participation. A maximum of 30% absences is tolerated. Attendance on the first day is crucial to confirm participation in the course.
Examination topics
Students are expected to demonstrate confidence in the agreed-upon literature for their topic and actively contribute to discussions of their peers' presentations.
