Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the mentoring is to support first-semester students in small groups. More specifically, its purpose is to help them finding orientation in the university environment and to make the introductory and orientation phase more interlinking and interactive for new students, based on the motto “by students for students”.

The mentors support the new students in particular in organizing their studies, preparing for the StEOP exams, networking with other students and forming learning groups.

"Active studying" is to be promoted through mentoring. This means that newcomers are motivated to complete the StEOP exams and thus achieve the best prerequisites for the further course of their studies.

Tasks of the mentors
Each mentor leads a group of around 20 students and organizes regular meetings with the new students in the winter semester. The general contents of the meetings are developed by the mentors, supported by SPL and teacher representatives. Creativity and individuality are desired when implementing the topics.

The team of StEOP mentors in economics consists of up to 12 mentors and is led by Doz. Dr. Christina Sichtmann and a Moodle course throughout the semester.

Before the beginning of the semester (mid-September), mentors must complete both the 1-day qualification workshop "Instructing Peer Mentoring Groups" of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) as well as another workshop from the CTL offer (e.g. "Instructing groups "," Learning to Learn "," Procrastination "," Diversity ").

After successfully completing STEOP mentoring, you will receive a confirmation of participation from the CTL for your CV.

In addition, you will be prepared for a specific course in your own field of study and accompanied through the semester. For this you get ECTS points.
