Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This is a core course in macroeconomics for the Master Program in Economics. It deals with advanced methods and models that are used to study economic growth and the business cycle including neoclassical and endogenouse growth models, real business cycle models, and New Keynesian models.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written final exam (48%), two written multiple-choice tests during the semester (14% each), and a workshop in which scientific articles are discussed (24%). For a positive grade you need at least 50% of all points that can be earned.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Students become familiar with some basic empirical facts about economic growth and business cycles as well as with the basic structure of the most popular models used in modern macroeconomics to study these phenomena. They will be able to use and modify these models so as to formally analyze questions of macroeconomic relevance.

Examination topics

The course material is first explained in a presentation by the lecturer. Weekly exercises help to get practice in using the presented theories and methods. A workshop with student presentations of related research articles completes the course.
