Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course provides an introduction to the most common statistical methods that are used in empirical economics. This includes linear regression (ordinary least squares, generalized least squares, instrumental variables) and the corresponding hypothesis tests (restriction tests as well as diagnostic tests). The methods are highlighted in empirical applications in Stata.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assessment is based on three written tests. The closed-book tests carry increasing weights of 25 %, 35 %, 45 % in the final grade. A positive grade requires at least 50 % of the maximum achievable score and attendance at the first written test.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Aims of the module: Participants will have acquired the necessary skills for the analysis of economic data by statistical procedures and for drawing conclusions from the empirical analysis. They are able to apply models derived from economic data to concrete data and to test theory-based hypotheses empirically. This course provides the theoretical basis, and the tutorial that should be attended following this course provides the hands-on applied skills.
