Group 1
The goal of this course is to familiarize students with a broad range of theoretical and practical perspectives on the strategy and organization of the multinational firm as global network.
Specifically, this course is concerned with the evolution, the strategy process, the formation of the organization structure and the communication strategy of the MNC. The student is expected to develop skills in evaluating international competitive strategies in multicultural environments, in designing alternative organizational forms for multinational firms, in applying communication strategies, in the use of international licensing, strategic alliances, merger & acquisitions, consortia, franchising and clusters, in identifying appropriate forms of market entry, and in evaluating alternative corporate governance structures in different international institutional environments.

Aims, contents and method of the course
The course will be given primarily through lecture and class presentation of different cases. Each student is strongly encouraged to participate in class discussions. Classroom participation is an important part of evaluation. Generally, an analysis of the readings will be used to guide our discussion, but the format will be free-flowing and may vary considerably. A suggestion to read the assigned material from the reference books and articles, and to express opinions, comments, and insights relative to the discussion topic is to be made.

Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is concerned with the evolution of the multinational firm and the formation of the network structure of the MNC. The course will consist of lectures, short case presentations, and a final exam. The student is expected to develop skills in evaluating international competitive strategies in multicultural environments, in designing alternative organizational forms for multinational firms, in the use of international licensing, strategic alliances, merger & acquisitions, consortia, franchising and clusters, in identifying appropriate forms of market entry, and in developing network strategies to create competitive advantage of nations, regions and cities.
Assessment and permitted materials
Evaluation - Total points (120)
a. 4 summaries from 4 different topics (20) (4 summaries must be submitted!)
The relevant articles are published on MOODLE.
The summary must include:
1. Summary of the author’s arguments (2 pages);
2. Critique: Discuss the strength and weaknesses of the study (1-2 pages).
b. Case Study Presentation (2-4 persons) (30)
c. Active participation in the class and the public lectures (20).
MINIMUM attendance: 75 %
d. Exam (50) – minimum 40 %!

Examination topics
The course will consist of four parts, lectures, short case presentations, public lectures and a final exam. The attendance on the public lectures is obligatory as it will have a wait on the overall grade.
