Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Strategic thinking means to make choices when influenced by the choices of others. Hence, your favorite choices will depend on how others choose. The objective of this course is to consider strategic thinking in everyday life situations, in practice, and to model and understand the strategic concerns. We will also be practicing making our own strategic decision making live in class using an app.
Topics include where to meet a friend if you forgot to agree on a meeting place, when to pay for the delivery of a good you are ordering online and how to bid in an auction. Students will be asked to bring their own examples too.
Each lecture will start with a small story, a video, a song or a proverb (Sprichwort) and then students start discussing what strategic choices are involved and how to solve the possible conflicts. Live games using the app will help develop an understanding of how to anticipate what others do and thus to improve own decision making.
The course is not following a text book.

There is no formal requirement. But, you should have some basic knowledge of game theory, so you should only take this course after you have taken our bachelor game theory class. You need to bring an internet mobile device or a laptop to be able to play in the live games.
