Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Learning goal is acquisition of skills and gaining insight in the field of Operations Research/Quantitative Decision Support/Analytics. Focus is laid upon formal models for implementation in efficient computational procedures for solving problems and application in the domain of economy and
business.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course will be offered on site, in physical presence. It is a course with continuous assessment
of students’ achievements which means that partial achievements, either in written or oral form, are
required throughout the course. Therefore, attendance at these courses is compulsory. The oral and/or
written partial achievements form the basis for assessment.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Focus is on continuous active participation by students. The maximum score of 20
points of this component can only be achieved if at most two units are missed, further absence
results in subtraction of points. Activity means to answer (easy) questions by the professor when
directly addressed. This procedure also provides feedback on the how well the discussed material is
understood and thus constitutes a key element in the interaction students–professor in this course.

In addition to these major activity components, there will be a written exam (in presence), scheduled
during course time on Monday, 12 June 2023. Net working time will be significantly shorter than
the 90 minutes of this time slot, and details like location will be communicated well in advance. A
maximum score of 10 points can be obtained by the written test.

Hence the maximum overall score is 30 points, and students pass the course when achieving
at least 16 points. A detailed conversion table from points p to grade (German terminology, numeric
value) follows:

0 <= p < 16 fail (nicht genügend, 5)
16 <= p < 19 pass (genügend, 4)
19 <= p < 23 satisfactory (befriedigend, 3)
23 <= p < 27 good (gut, 2)
27 <= p excellent (sehr gut, 1)

Under the condition that 16 points are already achieved, voluntary complementary oral exams are offered to those who want to improve their marks by one grade in borderline cases. This will be decided by the professor after the results of the written test are in; the oral exams (if any) will be performed before 22 June 2023.
