Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The subject of the course will be the most recent developments in ECJ case law in areas relevant to businesses. The topics will be prepared by means of a presentation by the students followed by a discussion in plenary sessions. The ECJ cases will be chosen from a pool of decisions by the students themselves. A list of ECJ cases relevant to the course, from which the students can choose, will be uploaded by the course instructor on Moodle before the start of the first lesson. The aim of the course is both to acquire competences in dealing with ECJ jurisprudence and to gain an insight into current legal problems of Union law affecting the economic sphere of businesses.

The course will be held using the Moodle tool.

Currently discussed topics are: Labour Law, Data Protection Law, Company Law, Gambling Law, Insolvency Law, Private International Law, International Civil Procedure Law, Telecommunications Law (Platform Law), Consumer Law, Insurance Law.

The class will be held in German with the option of presenting in English.

Assessment and permitted materials

The assessment is based on the presentation, oral participation and a short written paper on the topic of the presentation.
The presentation must not exceed a duration of 20 minutes. The written paper has to comprise between three and five A4 pages of usual format (including all references).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements for obtainment of positive grades: Attendance during the entire course, submission of the written work, presentation.

Grade composition: 45% presentation, 45% written work, 10% discussion.
