Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims: The course aims at developing a fine-grained understanding of the key concepts, issues and practices of corporate governance in the contemporary global business organisations. It endeavours to create an ability, in the course participants, to synthesise and apply the acquired knowledge in their respective collaborative research projects.
Contents:
1. Firms, organisations and contracts
2. Corporate governance options for the local subsidiaries of multinational enterprises
3. Contractual vs. Relational governance
4. Ownership strategies in international business
5. The MNC’s degree of control over foreign subsidiaries
6. Agency perspectives on corporate governance of Multinational Enterprises
7. Bargaining power perspective of global business
8. The impact of corporate governance on Multinational firms’ performance

Methods: The course will be organised following a lecture format characterising interactive discussions on the various aspects of corporate governance in global business context. Students are expected to come prepared with the course material to be supplied through Moodle at beginning of the course. Students will write group assignment(s) that would be discussed/presented in the last of week of June.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written Exam: There will be a comprehensive written examination to assess the learning accumulated during class discussions. The exam. will consist of multiple choice questions, True/False questions and one essay question.
Group Assignment: Students will undertake an assignment in groups comprising of up to four members each. The details of the group assignments will be supplied at the end of the class discussion in the first week of April.
Public Lectures: Public lectures are an integral part of this course. In these lectures, experts from the relevant field of study held discussion on the various topics/aspects relating to the global business. The participation/attendance during these lectures is mandatory for the completion of the course. Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Assessment Criteria: Written Exam. 60%
Group Assignment 30%
Quizzes/Class participation 10%
Minimum Requirements: For successful completion of the course, a student must secure at least 50% score in the written examination.
