Aims, contents and method of the course

Taking into account the international orientation of economic activity, this course offers an introduction to the law of the European Union and private international law. With a special focus on the areas of Union law relevant to business (in particular fundamental freedoms), an overview of the functioning and principles of the European Union and Union law will be provided. In addition, a case-related presentation of the basic rules of private international law is given with a focus on the regulations of international contract law, knowledge which is indispensable for determining the applicable law in cross-border situations.
The aim of the course is to provide students with an overview of the legal implications of international legal relations, which should also serve as a basis for international economic activities in the students' later professional life.

The areas covered will be presented through distance learning.
The units on private international law (13.10.2021, 20.10.2021, 27.10.2021, 03.11.2021 and 10.11.2021) will take place from 11.30-13.00 and will be streamed via Moodle or a PPP containing the instructor's recordings will be made available to the students at the beginning of the respective unit for 48h. The mode of the respective unit will be announced to the students in time. Participation is compulsory. The examination of the participation takes place in the respective units and via knowledge tests, which are carried out via the learning platform Moodle.

The units on the part European Law (17.11.2021, 24.11.2021, 01.12.2021, 15.12.2021 and 12.01.2022) will take place from 11.30-13.00 and will be streamed via Moodle. Note that the unit on 15.12.2021 lasts from 09:45-13:00! Attendance is mandatory on all dates.
The examination of the participation is done via knowledge questions, which have to be answered on the learning platform Moodle after the respective unit and which deal with the material worked on in the unit.
