The course will put a substantial amount of effort in having the students work with
econometric software in analyzing actual data sets, reproducing and
criticizing results in previous work and learning the actual practice of
econometrics as undertaken by the best applied economists. There will be empirical exercises based on the readings. They are likely to be computer and data intensive. The class will therefore be consist of lectures (Tuesdays, 9:45-11:15) and computer lab sessions (Thursdays, 11:30-13:00). Students are free to choose the computer programs to work on the exercises, such as R, Stata or similar software. The aim of the course is that students are able to choose and apply the relevant state-of-the-art empirical technique to analyze a specific question in Industrial Organization and/or Competition Policy.
