4.00 ECTS (2.00 SWS), SPL 4 - Wirtschaftswissenschaften
Continuous assessment of course work

With the geographic dispersal of economic activities around the world, the fields of international business and strategic management have begun to find common ground, particularly as researchers increasingly focus on the development and management of global strategy. In connection with the parallel stream of international management research, this seminar aims to provide students to have insights on strategic thinking and action in an international context. It needs basic frameworks for understanding international strategic thinking. Accordingly the seminar syllabus presents research topics, extending from the strategic positioning to strategy implementation, from macro- to micro-level perspective in a hierarchy. On completion of this course, the students will be able to assess the internationalization potential of different markets, to identify sources of competitive advantage in international strategy through both global sourcing and exploitation of local factors, to distinguish between four main types of international strategy and to assess the relative merits of different market entry modes, and to have an understanding of how to manage global systems.
