Ziele: Die Seminarteilnehmer sollen durch die Beschäftigung mit wissenschaftlichen Originaltexten, die, mit Verweis auf deren Realitätsferne oder -nähe, die Standardannahmen der ökonomischen Entscheidungstheorie aufheben, in die Lage versetzt werden, die neuerer Zeit stark diskutierten alternativen Präferenztheorien im Hinblick auf deren Erklärungs- und Prognosegehalt zu würdigen.
Aims: The seminar participants will - by examining original scientific work - learn to judge the importance of "alternative" approaches in economics. At present these approaches are widely discussed because they claim to be more realistic compared to standard economic models of decision-making.

Examination topics
Methoden: Frei gehaltene und medial gestützte Vorträge (45 Minuten) in Kooperation mit einem Partner; Hausarbeit, in der in gekürzter Form (15 Seiten inklusive Anhänge) und durch eigene Literaturrecherche ergänzt, der wissenschaftliche Beitrag des gewählten Seminarthemas kritisch analysiert wird.
Methods: Free presentations supported by media (45 minutes) and organized in cooperation with a fellow student; Take-home seminar paper that discusses the assigned topic in a short and precise manner (15 pages including all appendices) with critical emphasis on the explanatory and prognostic power of assumptions concerning "alternative" preference structures.

Content: The seminar introduces the economic analysis of non-rational or "non-economic" preferences and the respective implications or human behaviour in business environments. Twelve presentations are structured in five blocks: (1) The human being, an economic animal? (2) Economics with scales and tape measure; (3) Managers are only humans too; (4) The fine art of buying and selling; (5) A warning: fishing for significance?
