The course covers key topics of economics of transition focusing on the state and the institutional integration in enlarged Europe. It studies two dimensions of the transition process with respect to state activity: (1) changes in government expenditures, transfers and taxes, and (2) privatization of state enterprises and the liberalization of economic activities. The aims of this course are using modern economic theories (1) to approach the state changes and convergence (divergence) paths in the European transition economies, and (2) to explain their effects on economic performance (growth, investment).
