Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture series conveys fundamental elements of sociological thinking to students of business administration. It presents core theoretical perspectives, concepts, and analytical methods and introduces current debates about pivotal sociological themes such as attitudes, norms, social networks, groups, inequality, societal stratification and segmentation, social mobility, and resources. At the end the lectures focus on some aspects of societal change like modernization, migration and social cohesion. The concepts are discussed in relation to current research in economic sociology.

Assessment and permitted materials

A written exam takes place in the exam weeks.
No material apart from a dictionary Mother tongue/German may be used.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

For a positive grade a minimum of 50 percent of the maximum number of points (100) must be obtained.
Grading scale: < 50 = 5, 50–59=4, 60–69=3, 70–79=2, 80–100=1
