Aims, contents and method of the course

> This course gives an overview of appointment scheduling as applied to
> > outpatient services in health care. The main goal of effectively-designed
> > appointment systems is to improve clinic performance by minimizing patient
> > waiting time, doctor idle time and overtime. Therefore, the intended
impact
> > is on improving both quality and productivity in the health care delivery.

Students will be required to present a
> > written report on selected papers that exemplify different methodologies
> > used in the literature, that include analytical methods, simulation and
case
> > studies. (Sprache: englisch)

Examination topics

> A comprehensive review of the literature will be presented with an
emphasis
> > on definition and formulation of the appointment-scheduling problem and
> > taxonomy of methodologies used in prior studies. Recent paradigms such as
> > open-access scheduling will be discussed, together with some suggestions
for
> > future research directions.
