Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

After sales services have increased considerable attention in supply chain management and logistics over the last decade. In many industries, after sales services show larger profit margins than original parts sales. However, the design and operation of after sales services poses special challenges as they are typically subject to higher uncertainty, dynamics, and complexity. Recent advances and typical strategic and operational problems in spare parts management will be covered as the topic of this seminar.

Assessment and permitted materials

Seminar paper (15-20 pages) (45%), presentation (45%), discussion (10%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The objective of the seminar is to equip the participants with the necessary skill and tools for a successful master thesis project. Specifically, the aim is to read and understand recent research contributions in the field of supply chain management, to do own literature research on the assigned topic, to structure the material and pursue interesting research questions, and to write a paper.

Examination topics

Each participant will be assigned a specific research topic and then research available literature on this to write a 15-20 pages paper that describes the problem and solution approaches. The paper is submitted one week prior to the presentation of the topic. Each participant will be assigned as a discussant to another presentation. It is the discussant¿s responsibility to wrap-up the presentation and moderate the discussion.
