Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture deals with real-life cases of logistics and operations management in industry. In the considered cases, quantitative methodology is applied to model key aspects of the plan-ning problem, and specific solution techniques, mostly relying on standard optimization soft-ware, have been developed which allow the respective problems to be solved within reason-able computational time. The cases are selected such that all levels of the planning hierarchy in supply chain management are covered.
Assessment and permitted materials
Assignments to be handed in by April 14, 2010 (14:00)
Both a pdf file with a basic paper on the individual case and a pdf file with slides for presenting the case in class are provided. The task of the participants is (1) to prepare a meaningful presentation of the case using the provided and additional slides and (2) to deliver a 2-3 page report on the underlying paper discussing its strengths and weaknesses, limitations and capabilities, usefulness of the applied methodology etc. and comparing it with the existing literature in face of challenges imposed by supply chain management in practice.
Each participant works on one selected case study. Groups of two participants may be es-tablished provided that all cases have been assigned.
