Flexibility and evolution constitute major challenges for Information Systems in almost every application domain. One example is health care where exceptional situations have to be treated on a daily basis or complex manufacturing processes. New regulations might force enterprises to adapt their business processes.

The VU Evolution addresses techniques and methods for the definition and implementation of changes in IS based on the important example of business processes and workflows. On top of the state of the art in business process management, versioning techniques in software engineering are presented. The transfer and application of these techniques to business processes is discussed and realized within a proof of concept prototype.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Die Umsetzung von Flexibilität und Evolution in Informationssystemen sind für fast alle Anwendungsdomänen von herausragender Bedeutung. Beispielsweise ergibt sich im klinischen Bereich häufig die Notwendigkeit zur Behandlung von Ausnahmesituationen. Gesetzliche Änderungen führen in vielen Fällen zu einer evolutionären Anpassung, etwas von Geschäftsprozessen.

Die VU beschäftigt sich mit Techniken und Methoden zur Umsetzung von Änderungen in Informaitonssystemen am Beispiel von Geschäftsprozessen und Workflows. Ausgehend vom state of the art in diesem Bereich werden über einen Exkurs über Versionierungstechniken in der Softwareentwicklung weiterführende Fragestellungen erarbeitet. Diese werden im Rahmen eines Projekts umgesetzt. Einblicke werden ebenfalls in die Evolution in Datenbanksysteme gegeben.
