Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students understand the theoretical and practical mechanisms (concepts, methods, techniques and tools) of data management, web technologies and basic security mechanisms to design, realize and use web-based information systems.

This course introduces students to the following topics:
- Data Engineering (Parallel and distributed DBMS, Object-relational and OO DBMS, Semi-structuriered modelling, NoSQL DBMS, Data integration)
- Web Engineering (Application architectures, Service Engineering, Cloudcomputing)
- Security Engineering (Basic security services, encryption, security protocols)

The course consists of a theory part (weekly lecture) and a practical part (project).

Assessment and permitted materials

The theory and the practical part account for resp. 40 points and 60 points, i.e. maximum 100 points).

Point assignements consist specifically of
- written exam (40 points)
- IS specification (10 points)
- IS implementation based on relational DBMS (25 points)
- IS migration to NoSQL DBMS (25 points)

Mandatory requirements for a positive grade are
- attendance in the theory part (weekly lecture) and
- project presentation at the end of course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The grading scale for the course will be:
Sehr Gut [100-87.5], Gut ]87.5-75], Befriedigend ]75-62.5], Genügend ]62.5-50], Nicht Genügend ]50-0].
