Aims, contents and method of the course

The automation of their business processes through workflow-driven applications supported by Workflow Management Systems (WfMS) constitutes an essential challenge for enterprises nowadays. The course will introduce basic concepts of developing such workflow driven applications at a theoretical and practical level, including practical exercises with selected systems and tools. In detail:

‣ Basic concepts of workflow technologies and workflow-driven applications
‣ Process modeling languages and techniques, workflow patterns
‣ Architectures of Workflow Management Systems
‣ Interoperability in WfMS
‣ Development of workflow-driven applications
‣ Workflows and Web Services

Assessment and permitted materials

‣ practical and theoretical exercises
‣ participation and discussion within the course
‣ written exam

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

‣ Part A: 55% exercises (theoretical and practical)
‣ Part B: 35% written exam
‣ Part C: 10% discussion

In both, Part A and Part B, 50% of the points have to be achieved. Overall more than 50% need to be achieved.
