Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This module aims to alert graduates to the societal design spaces, potentials, responsibilities, risks and consequences of informatics applications and to enable them to actively participate in the developments. Our considerations focus on the social challenges of implementing informatics applications in Open & Citizen Science projects in the European development and research landscape, taking into account the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This module is designed as a space for the guided exploration and teaching of the basics, prerequisites, goals, tools, potential and current developments of selected social software tools, in particular in the context of specific (European) research and development projects. Graduates are able to analyse, critically reflect and conceptually optimize social software and its significance for people and society.

Assessment and permitted materials

40% individual: written test (multiple choice + free text)
15% individual: critical reflection on Wikipedia (template)
20% team work: presentation & discussion of the research & analysis results of (learning) apps in the context of (European) Citizen Science projects
25% team work: It can be chosen from the following two options:
a) developing a (learning) app in the context of Open & Citizen Science (developing a concrete concept) OR
b) an empirical study on Wikipedia using one of the presented methods of analysis
- Presentation and discussion of the respective results
